I can\u2019t write without drinking coffee. Occasionally I even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.durkota.net\/category\/coffee\/\">write about drinking coffee<\/a>. I visit my local Starbucks at least once a day. The other day I noticed a flyer on the wall. I never look at flyers on the wall, but for some reason this one called to me. It was kismet. <em>VetsWrite <\/em>was the headline. It <a href=\"https:\/\/www.durkota.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/qr6ptiw7hbdmc69xhlkq.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-216 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.durkota.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/qr6ptiw7hbdmc69xhlkq-300x196.jpg\" alt=\"qr6ptiw7hbdmc69xhlkq\" width=\"300\" height=\"196\" srcset=\"https:\/\/durkota.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/qr6ptiw7hbdmc69xhlkq-300x196.jpg 300w, https:\/\/durkota.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/qr6ptiw7hbdmc69xhlkq-768x501.jpg 768w, https:\/\/durkota.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/qr6ptiw7hbdmc69xhlkq-676x441.jpg 676w, https:\/\/durkota.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/qr6ptiw7hbdmc69xhlkq.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>advertised a creative writing class for veterans at the public library. I snapped a photo and proceeded home to investigate further.<\/p>\n<p><em>VetsWrite<\/em> has a <a href=\"http:\/\/vetswrite.com\/\">website<\/a> and sponsorship from local businesses. The seven-week course is being offered by a fellow MFA and culminates in a public reading following Veteran\u2019s day. Needless to say I emailed the organizer and indicated my intent to participate. It turns out she may need some help and asked if I would lead one of the sessions. Now I just need to decide which topic: conflict &amp; plot, setting, POV &amp; voice, or scene.<\/p>\n<p>I believe all of this is undeniable proof that Starbucks is quintessential to my life.<\/p>\n<p>Random musings for the weekend:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>My nephew broke his arm. He needed surgery to install a couple pins. Just a few hours after surgery, his mom mentioned that he\u2019ll have to drop soccer and baseball for the fall. His response: \u201cYou don\u2019t need hands for soccer.\u201d He is 5. What a tough kid. I should also mention that this discussion took place outside of Starbucks.<\/li>\n<li>I watched <em>The Martian<\/em> again last night. Great movie.<\/li>\n<li>The <em>Roadies<\/em> season finale is tomorrow.
